Assorted Table Wine & Shop was founded in 2012 by Joshua Villapando. We pride ourselves on our eclectic selection, our quirky extras, and most importantly, our customer service. We may not be the biggest, but we are the coolest. On our shelves, you’ll find wines from all corners of the world, Sake, beer, collectibles, action figures, bicycles, art prints….We pack as much as possible into our “walk-in closet” sized shop in The Market at 7th St (formerly 7th St Public Market)! Visit us in person Monday through Sunday or fill out our online order form for curbside pick up any day of the week.
Meet the owner, Joshua Villapando
First-gen Filipino American Joshua Villapando, Owner and Wine Schnerbly of Assorted Table Wine & Shop.
His work in the culinary and wine industry in Charlotte spans over two decades only working for local mom-and-pops.
Joshua has lectured for Johnson & Wales University on numerous occasions, helped create and execute a pop-up dinner with Chef Chris Coleman at The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and has judged for both Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend and the North Carolina State Fair Wine Competition.
Joshua consults for restaurants and hotels, having created wine lists as well as training staff at Ilios Noche, Stoke Charlotte, Marriott City Center, The Bottle Shop, Not Just Coffee Dilworth, Wooden Robot Brewery, Lamberti’s Italian Ristorante & Wine Bar, MAG USA for a restaurant concept in Charlotte Douglas Airport, The Dunhill Hotel and The Asbury.
Joshua has toured dozens of wine regions both stateside and in Europe hopefully adding South America to the list: he’s planning a Spanish language immersion and winery tour in Chile, a collaboration with Language Academy of the Carolinas.
He’s currently pursuing a degree in Enology and Viticulture (winemaking and grape growing) at Surry Community College, the first and currently, only institution of higher learning east of the Rockies with a commercial vineyard and bonded winery on campus.
When not tasting wine, Joshua can be found playing Hot Wheels with his five-year-old son, supporting (or kissing!) his beautiful wife, Jenny (a highly respected restaurant professional in her own right), on a bicycle flinging himself down a mountain in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina, or pop-and-locking in an old-school breakdance showdown.
Meet our General Manager, Amy Tapia
Amy started her journey at Assorted Table in May of 2023. Originally hired as a Purchaser, her many years of experience in the Food & Beverage Industry eventually led her to her new role as General Manager. Although Amy lived most of her childhood and early teenage years in England and California, (thanks to an Air Force dad) she considers Concord, NC home, where her family settled down after her father’s retirement.
She began her restaurant career in Alabama and from there went on to work all over the country, most recently in Greenwich, CT. Amy and her husband have two girls, 13 and 10, who she claims are the reason she loves wine so much!
When not at the shop you can find her on the tennis courts, at the lake or cleaning up the never ending slime mess that seems to appear out of nowhere!
Amy’s go-to wine is a Sancerre Rose, but with two kids in braces, she’s just as happy with an inexpensive Vinho Verde! Stop by and say hello, as she’s never one to shy away from a good chat.
Meet our Assistant Manager, Derek Leclair
Introducing a fresh perspective to Assorted Table is our Assistant Manager, Derek. With an extensive background in the beverage industry, Derek has held diverse roles, including managing a retail wine shop, serving as a beverage director, and acting as a wine buyer in Boston and Dallas. His journey has instilled in him a profound passion for wine and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, highlighted by his attainment of the Level 3 Award in Wines from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.
Derek’s palate leans towards the classics, both in terms of esteemed producers and renowned wine regions. While our selection will continue to cater to the discerning tastes of Charlotte’s wine enthusiasts and wine nerds alike, Derek’s influence will sculpt our selections with even more quality small-scale producers of delicious wine. He will assist you not only with your wine selection tonight, but also your cherished cellar collection.
Our dynamic blend of tradition and innovation promises to broaden your wine experience at Assorted Table. Ask for Derek to curate your next case of wine!
Meet our Events Manager, Brion Cephus
Brion Cephus is our Events Manager and Padawine. His love of attending events gives him a keen perspective on planning and execution.
With a love for wine and food that was birthed during his time at Johnson & Wales University, Brion has ambitiously sought to leave his mark on the hospitality industry. He’s ventured from boutique hotel management to helping open local restaurant concepts in the Charlotte market, and even F&B consultation. Brion seeks to demystify and connect people with the talented professionals of the hospitality field through his brand, “The Certified Wino”, all while geeking out over the vino in his glass this week.
Find him on the retail floor, hosting your next event, or sipping wine while spinning vinyl.
Meet our Fine Wine Manager, Antonio Battistella
Antonio Battistella has over 45+ years in the food and beverage industry. He has trained as a Chef de Cuisine & Sommelier at some of the most elite restaurants along the East Coast. He started at Assorted Table in the winter of 2018 and quickly became our in-house fine wine expert. Antonio has had the opportunity to taste grand crus, first growths, prestige cuvées, and gran seleziones from exceptional vintages… wines that are now referred to as modern-day “unicorns.”
Always “thirsty” and prepared to make an excellent recommendation-be sure to travel with him to the Eurocave and he’ll show you some of the hidden gems of Assorted Table Wine & Shop!
